NC: You opened for Sara Bareilles on her last tour, which stopped by the Rams Head OnStage. What was that experience like? TL: Sara is a wonderful person and is super generous. Her band and crew made me feel right at home. Made a lot of new fans and had a ton of fun. NC: How long have you been performing? Other than improving, how has your songwriting changed since you started your career? TL: I’ve been at it since I was a kid. Been taking it seriously for about 12 years. My songs have become more about communicating to and with other people and less about just airing out my emotional dysfunction. NC: This seems like an interesting time to be a musician right now with technology changing things so much. What is easier now than say, five years ago? What is more difficult? TL: There are aspects of it that are easier, some things are still a challenge. Bottom line is you have to be vigilant. You have to stay on top of whatever the new avenues are for staying in touch and in tune with your audience. NC: You have played Coffee East/NightCat twice before…what do you remember about it? TL: I played a Valentine's Day show which was fun because I was able to go through my catalog and pick out all of my love songs. turns out I have quite a few. We had a really nice crowd. NC: Football is in full swing now…are you a football fan? Who’s your team? TL: I grew up in Michigan. I gave up when Barry Sanders quit. Any team that could make the best player ever decide to quit the game for good just to get out of his contract doesn't deserve a franchise. NC: Where do you currently live? How would you describe the music scene there? TL: I live in LA where the singer/songwriter scene is as strong and vibrant as any other anywhere. I am grateful to be a part of a truly wonderful circle of musicians and songwriters. NC: Why should people come see this show? TL: Because they are bound to hear songs that will most certainly have an impact on them. We love what we do and have a lot of fun doing it. When we have fun, folks usually have fun watching. NC: What was the last record you released? How is different than your other records? TL: I released Come Around Again last year. It's a really fun Rock and Roll record. Most of my other material is a bit more laid back and acoustic. NC: What plans do you have for 2010? TL: Touring, new album, touring... maybe a vacation with my family? |
